| There are six different obverses and three different reverses issued for the half guinea of the George III reign. It was issued in almost every year from 1762 to 1813. The first three obverses were by Richard Yeo. Thomas Pingo was the designer of the forth obverse. Lewis Pingo (Thomas's son) was the designer of the fith and sixth obverses. The first reverse was the same as the reverse used in the George II half Guine by John Tanner. The second reverse often refered to as the "spade" reverse on account of the shape of the shield was by Lewis Pingo. The third garter reverse was also by Lewis Pingo, and it is also known as the "military" guinea. It was only issued in 1813 and was struck to be used abroad by Wellingtons army during the Peninsular War. Gold was the only method of payment accepted by the locals. 1762-1813 Gold 8.4 grams, 24mm Diameter. |
