| JAMES II FARTHING 1684-1687 |
| Designed by John Roettier. There were two obverses and one reverse designs issued for James II farthings. They were (with the exception of some rarer 1685 farthings which had no copper plug) struck in tin with a copper plug in the centre. This was to deter counterfeiters, but tin isn't a hard metal so these coins tend to wear quickly. So they are hard to find in high grade. 1684-1687 Tin with copper plug., 5.2-6 grams, 22-23mm Diameter. |
